News & Announcements

  • Swine Flu Preparedness Update
Like many colleges and universities across the country, Rider has been experiencing flu-like illness among students, faculty and staff since earlier this semester. The good news is that the numbers are still relatively small. As of October 1, 2009, we know of 32 students and 17 faculty and staff across both campuses who have reported flu-like illness and are recovering at home or have since recovered. Of these, two have been diagnosed with H1N1 (swine flu). Procedures for dealing with these cases have proceeded as planned. Please refer to the September 1, 2009 update for additional information.

  • Composing Philosophies -- Seldes’ Bernstein Book Is on Key
Dr. Barry Seldes remembers when he first encountered Leonard Bernstein. It was a hot summer day in 1956 when Seldes, then an undergraduate at the City College of New York, left class to hear music coming from the college’s amphitheater. There, the New York Philharmonic was in rehearsal and Seldes saw and heard the legendary composer playing the piano. Now, in his new book, Leonard Bernstein: The Political Life of an American Musician, Seldes examines the relationship between Bernstein’s musical and political lives.
